The account below is from a conservative Australian journalist. I thought an outside view might be more balanced It was a tale of two debates. And for each candidate, it was both the best and worst of debates. For the first half-hour, Donald Trump wiped the floor with Hillary Clinton. It looked as though the New York property mogul would win not only the debate but the presidency itself there in Hofstra, New York, in one debate. He spoke in the powerful, plain language of everyman. Clinton began with characteristic politician waffle about building the right kind of economy. Trump’s appeal was visceral and direct: “We have to stop our jobs being stolen from us and our companies leaving us.” There is, of course, a lie at the heart of Trump’s appeal. Free trade has been good for the American economy. A dynamic economy destroys old jobs and creates new ones all the time. In so far as old jobs have been lost, this is much more because of technological change than trade.

Castle Cottage is a circa 1750 grade two listed building situated at the bottom of a flight of steps on an ancient pathway leading to Carisbrooke Castle . It is by foot the nearest house to that Norman castle ( C 1090) where donkeys operate a Tudor wheel and raise water from a well deeper than Nelsons Column is high .  The walk around the outside of the castle is a favorite of dog walkers . Membership of English Heritage or the Friends of Carisbrooke castle gives you a pass inside where many world class events are held including historic reenactments , plays and even a worlds strongest man event . The Trump and Sander’s movements stem from a similar shift in historical consciousness to that which Francois Furet highlighted as unleashing the French Revolution. Americans feel like the current political system has failed them, it no longer works. Hence the establishment needs to go. This same stirring of consciousness is happening in Europe. The juggernaut in Brussels continues to grow and antagonism continues to rise. Marine Le Pen’s National Front is now one of the largest political forces in France, Austria very narrowly avoided electing a right wing president. Instead they went for a member of the Green party and not an establishment candidate. .
